IDEAs in Action

We believe that IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability) are key enablers to accomplishing Berkeley Lab’s vision of bringing science solutions to the world, and are critical components of Berkeley Lab’s stewardship efforts.

IDEA produces high-performing teams, and drives meaningful impact and outcomes. IDEA is not separate from our work; instead, it is integral to who we are and what we do.

The IDEAS-in-Action website is a collection of trainings, toolkits, research and articles to help you expand your knowledge, bring awareness to your current strengths, and identify areas of growth and learning. In doing so, we hope this site helps you expand inclusion, diversity, equity and accountability for yourself, your team and the lab.

“We are not what we know but what we are willing to learn."

Workplace Civility

IDEA at Berkeley Lab

Messages from Lady Idos, Berkeley Lab's Chief Diversity Officer and Mike Witherell, Lab Director.

Inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability are four important attributes of the Lab's culture. Berkeley Lab's Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer Lady Idos explains how these, known by the acronym IDEA, are defining how we work together to support the Lab's mission.

Diversity drives the ideas that unlock our science according to Berkeley Lab Director Mike Witherell. He calls on the Lab to focus on four concepts: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accountability, or IDEA.
